“My family also shared our culture with my friends when I was growing. I still remember this one time that my dad told my best friend: “If you want to be a part of the family, you must use chopsticks.” This wasn’t followed with much explanation as to ‘how’ to eat with chopsticks, but just the implication that she didn’t get to eat dinner if she didn’t figure it out. And she was only 8 years old! Thankfully, I can report that she did learn and, in fact, now uses chopsticks for most of her meals, except for soup. Years later, I was on vacation with that same best friend, who hails from Basque country in Spain. I was able to capture this photo in San Sebastián.
