“This is my current kit for sporting events: The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III is my workhorse camera for sports. I think the AF, high ISO performance and frame rate make it the best sports action camera available today. The Canon EOS R5 is also a great action camera, and its size and weight along with fantastic AF make it an ideal second body.
With the current precautions moving photographers farther from the action in almost all sports, the Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM lens has replaced the EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM as my go-to sports lens. It is incredibly sharp, focuses fast and it’s very light for a lens of this focal length. With the fantastic high ISO capabilities for both the EOS-1D X Mark III and the EOS R5, shooting f4 indoors or at night is no longer a problem.
If I had to choose one focal length lens to cover any sort of action, it would have to be the 70-200. The compact size and lighter weight of the Canon RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM lens along with the EOS R5 body is the perfect combination for an over-the-shoulder or an around-the-neck second camera setup.
For anything needing shorter tele, normal or wide coverage, I like the Canon RF24-105mm F4L IS USM. It gets the job done, it is light, compact, and super sharp. I also like to carry the EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM as it always provides me with different angles and unique perspectives. The Mount Adapter EF-EOS R allows my EF lenses to work seamlessly on any Canon mirrorless camera body.”
Ciao, Nihon.
