Find out what gear #CanonExplorerOfLight @erinbabnik is packing in her camera bag when she captures the Pink Supermoon tonight!

“Almost any lens can be a good option for photographing the supermoon, but if you want to make the moon appear large in your frame, try using a telephoto lens. I will be photographing the supermoon with my Canon EOS R5 and RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens. The light will be low when the moon rises, so it will be necessary to use a sturdy tripod and a remote shutter release. My gear will be mounted onto a ProMedia Gear TR343L Pro-Stix tripod, which I have paired with the ProMedia Gear BH50 ball head. Hiking in remote areas after dark can involve some risk, so I recommend going with a friend and bringing a personal locator beacon, such as the InReach Explorer. Also, it’s a good idea to have a spare battery and memory card handy as back-up because the moon won’t wait for you to find what you need if something should run out at a critical moment! Lastly, remember to keep the front element of your lens especially clean whenever a source of light is in the frame to avoid aberrations from dust and dirt. A rocket blower is always good to have on hand when photographing the moon, not only to clean your lens, but also to double as a thematic toy rocket ship to entertain you while waiting for the moon to make its appearance!”

Ciao, Nihon.
