Check out what’s in #CanonExplorerOfLight @tylerstableford’s gear bag! | “When I am shooting ice climbing in the mountains, I aim to carry the minimal amount of equipment in my bags so that I can climb and keep up with the athletes — but it also needs to be the best gear that can capture the best images! The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III and the SanDisk 512gb Extreme Pro CFexpress cards are my go-tos for high-speed shooting. When I’m hanging on a rope photographing or filming a climber, I am not as mobile as I would be on the ground, so I use zoom lenses that let me reframe the scenes quickly. My favorite lenses are the 11-24mm f/4, 16-35mm f/2.8, 24-70mm f/2.8, and 70-200mm f/2.8. I’ll often leave one of the two widest lenses at the base, but I like to have both with me until I evaluate what the scenario will require. This photo shows a small portion of the climbing gear I bring on a shoot, including crampons, harness, ice tools, ascenders, rope, and a Garmin Inreach Mini for emergencies and satellite texts (fortunately I’ve only had to use it for texting with my family when out of cell range). My camera gear all goes in my trusted Think Tank Photo Speed Racer 2 shoulder bag, which I can wear buckled on my hip or slung around my shoulder for quick access; and it doesn’t obstruct my harness. The rest of the climbing equipment goes on my harness.”
